Nigerian Singer Simi Responds To Backlash, Says She Doesn’t Regret Old Posts ‘Sexualising’ 4-Year-Old Boy At Mother’s Daycare

Popular Nigerian singer, Simisola Kosoko, better known as Simi, has hit back at social media critics following the resurfacing of several controversial tweets from 2012 and 2013 regarding her time working at her mother’s daycare.
The singer, who has recently been vocal in the campaign against rape and sexual violence, found herself at the center of a digital firestorm as X (formerly Twitter) users dug up old posts, some of which she made inappropriate remarks about minors.
The controversy erupted after screenshots of decade-old posts went viral. In one tweet from 2013, the singer pondered if “breast milk” had ever been used to “bake cake.”
Another post described a four-year-old at her mother’s daycare having a “crush” on her, while a third mentioned a child attempting to put a hand inside her shirt.
In one of the posts, Simi said, “This 4 years old boy’s D is good. I’m not sorry.”
On March 14, 2012, she tweeted, “David has a crush on me. He kips comn close; actin lik he wana lock lips n den he puts his head on my lap.Shd I giv him a chance? P.S: Hes 4.”
In another post, she wrote: “Why this 4yr old boy tryna put hand inside my sh*t????? Ogbeni wash it oh!”

On February 21, 2015, she tweeted, “I wish my husband was 4 years old. My type.”
In another post, Simi said she loves “to kiss d kids at my mum’s daycare – they’re super adorable and I’m crazy abt ’em.”
In a defiant response posted on her X handle on Sunday, Simi clarified that the tweets were innocent observations from her life as a 23-year-old helping out at her mother’s business while struggling to make it in the music industry.
“In 2012, I lived and helped out at my mom’s daycare while I was hustling my music. I tweeted everything that happened in my life, as we all did at the time. Kids can be mischievous. If a child did something I found funny, I tweeted about it. Kids are cute and lovable. I want to hug, kiss and cuddle them. I tweet about it. Nothing I tweeted was from perversion,” she said.
The “Duduke” crooner accused social media users of twisting her story to fit “false narratives.”
Addressing the deletion of some of the controversial posts, Simi revealed that while her team had been scrubbing her timeline due to the “sensitivity” of the matter for her family, she personally disagreed with the move because she had nothing to hide.
She said, “I was not famous, so maybe if I was, I would have understood that anything is open to whatever interpretation including being used falsely by a faceless mob.
“I’ve never been depraved in my life. You can retweet all the tweets in the world about me loudly crushing on people I admire/d. Or being a cheeky young woman. I wasn’t trying to hide it, because I don’t have anything to hide.
“My team has been deleting some of my tweets because of how sensitive it is for my family. To be honest, I did not want to.”
She further emphasised that her activism against sexual violence is not a “costume,” but a core part of her identity.
“I have always spoken against rape and sexual assault even before you knew I existed. It’s not a costume I’m wearing, it’s who I am. I’ve never claimed to be perfect. I’ve never claimed to know everything. I said stop raping women. I stand by it,” she added.
