Nigerian Man Who Climbed Abuja Mast Faces One-Year Jail Term For Attempted Suicide –Police
This assertion was made by SP Bright Edafe, the spokesperson for the Delta State Command, in a tweet on Tuesday, while explaining the arrest of Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau, a man who was rescued from attempting suicide by climbing a radio mast in Abuja.
The Nigeria Police Force has stated that attempted suicide is a criminal offense punishable by a one-year prison sentence.

Edafe said, “So online judges were asking why was the man who attempted suicide in Abuja was arrested and not rescued.
“Well the law does not have a place for pity or emotions, the law is clear, suicide itself is not an offence, but an attempted suicide is an offense that’s attracts one year of Imprisonment if found guilty. No be we make the law, we only enforce. SEC 327CC.”

On Monday morning, Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau was spotted atop a mast in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, apparently attempting to take his own life.
A video captured the incident, and a suicide note allegedly written by him was also discovered, as reported by SaharaReporters.
Relevant agencies were deployed to the scene to rescue him.
The rescue operation was carried out by the Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency and Federal Capital Territory officials
He was later arrested by the police and sent to the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) for mental assessment and evaluation.
