Nigerian Man Jailed In US Over Sextortion Scheme Leading To Victim’s Death
The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge, Joel H. Slomsky, for Aina’s role in a sextortion scheme linked to the death of a young man in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
United States Attorney, David Metcalf, has announced that Imoleayo Samuel Aina, also known as “Alice Dave,” 27, of Nigeria, has been sentenced to 72 months in prison, five years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $3,250 in restitution.
The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge, Joel H. Slomsky, for Aina’s role in a sextortion scheme linked to the death of a young man in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Aina and his co-defendant, Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun, were arrested in Nigeria following a complaint and warrant, taken into FBI custody on July 31, 2024, and subsequently extradited to the United States.
They were indicted in August 2024 alongside another Nigerian co-defendant, Afeez Olatunji Adewale, 25.
In May 2024, Aina pleaded guilty to cyberstalking, interstate threat to injure reputation, receiving proceeds of extortion, money laundering conspiracy, and wire fraud.
Abiodun, 26, pleaded guilty in December 2024 to money laundering conspiracy and wire fraud, and was sentenced on June 10 to five years in prison.
Adewale has also been charged with money laundering conspiracy and wire fraud but remains in Nigeria pending extradition.
“Aina was the driving force behind this sextortion scheme, which left a young man, and then his family, traumatised,” said U.S. Attorney Metcalf.
“The Department of Justice won’t just stand by when innocent victims in the U.S. are harmed by criminal scammers overseas. As this case shows, we can — and we will — find, prosecute, and hold accountable these insidious sextortionists who terrorise people for money.”
“This case is a powerful reminder of the profound harm sextortion inflicts on young people and their families, and of our unwavering commitment to pursuing those who perpetrate it,” added Wayne A. Jacobs, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia Field Office.
“This sentence delivers a clear message: whether you are in the United States or operating from abroad, the FBI and our partners will relentlessly pursue you. If you exploit our youth, we will bring you to justice.”
The case was investigated by the FBI and the Abington Township Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Brown.
The extradition of Aina and Abiodun was supported by the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs, the FBI Legal Attaché in Abuja, and Nigerian authorities, including the Attorney General of the Federation, the Ministry of Justice’s International Criminal Justice Cooperation Department, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
