Nigerian Breweries, Guinness Announce Price Increase Over Rising Operational Costs
Two of Nigeria’s leading brewing companies, Nigerian Breweries Plc and Guinness Nigeria Plc, have announced plans to increase the prices of some of their products, citing the continued rise in operational and production costs across the country.
The companies disclosed that the decision became necessary due to the challenging economic environment affecting manufacturers in Nigeria, including high inflation, rising energy costs, foreign exchange volatility, and increased logistics expenses.
In separate communications to distributors and partners, both brewing giants explained that the price adjustments are aimed at helping them sustain operations while maintaining product quality and supply across the market.
Nigerian Breweries Plc, the maker of popular brands such as Star Lager Beer, Gulder Lager Beer and Maltina, noted that the rising cost of raw materials, packaging, transportation, and energy has significantly impacted its production process.
Similarly, Guinness Nigeria Plc, producers of Guinness Stout, Malta Guinness and Orijin, stated that the price review was necessary to cushion the effects of the harsh business climate currently affecting the manufacturing sector.
Industry analysts say many manufacturers in Nigeria are facing mounting pressure due to the depreciation of the naira, rising fuel costs, and increasing import expenses for raw materials. These factors have forced several companies to adjust their product prices in order to remain viable.
The new price adjustments are expected to take effect soon, although the companies have assured distributors and consumers that they remain committed to delivering quality beverages while navigating the current economic challenges.
The development may also lead to higher retail prices for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages across the country, potentially affecting consumer spending as Nigerians continue to grapple with rising living costs.
