Nigerian Army Foils Planned Bandit Attack in Plateau, Neutralises Notorious Criminal

Troops of 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP), have successfully foiled a planned bandit attack in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, neutralising one notorious bandit and recovering arms and ammunition.

The operation was carried out in the early hours of Wednesday at Gwande Community, Monguna District, as part of the decisive phase of Operation PEACE SHIELD, aimed at guaranteeing a peaceful yuletide celebration across the joint operations area.
Security sources disclosed that the troops acted on credible intelligence indicating that a group of bandits was mobilising to launch an attack on a nearby community.
“During the intelligence-led operation, troops made contact with the bandits and engaged them in a fierce firefight, forcing the criminals to flee in disarray,” the source said.

In the course of the encounter, one bandit, Mallam Yahuza Abdullahi, aged 35, was neutralised.
Items recovered from the scene include one fabricated revolver rifle, one fabricated pistol, nine rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, and six cartridges.
Preliminary findings from the community revealed that the neutralised suspect was a key member of a criminal syndicate that had been terrorising Gwande Community and surrounding areas.

The source further disclosed that troops have commenced follow-up operations to track, intercept, and arrest other fleeing members of the gang, as security efforts continue to restore lasting peace in the area.
