Nigerian Army Foils Armed Robbery Operation, Arrests Suspect On Abuja-Kaduna Highway
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division, the operation was conducted by troops attached to Sector 1 of Operation Fansan Yamma.
Troops of the Nigerian Army have thwarted an armed robbery attempt and, in the process, shot and arrested a suspect identified as Kabiru Zayyanu along the Abuja–Kaduna Highway following a distress call during a routine patrol on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division, the operation was conducted by troops attached to Sector 1 of Operation Fansan Yamma.
The incident occurred at Nasarawan Doka when the troops received information about an ongoing armed robbery attack in the area.
“Upon receipt of the information, the troops immediately mobilised to the location and engaged the criminals, effectively neutralising the threat,” the statement read.
“During the encounter, one of the arrested suspects, Kabiru Zayyanu, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was promptly evacuated to Doka General Hospital, where he received first aid. Other members of the criminal gang fled the scene,” it added.
The army further stated, “Troops conducted a hot pursuit; however, no further contact was made. Additionally, no casualty or abduction was recorded during the operation.”
“The arrested suspect will be handed over to the relevant security agency upon completion of the investigation,” the statement continued.
It added, “The general security situation in the area remains calm, while troops continue to maintain a strong presence, dominate the area, and ensure a secure d environment.”
“The Nigerian Army reassures the general public of its continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urges members of the public to report suspicious activities to security agencies,” it concluded.
