New Islamic Terror Group “Wulo-Wulo” Emerges in Northern Nigeria
Fresh concerns have gripped Northern Nigeria following the revelation of a newly identified terror organization reportedly operating under the name “Wulo-Wulo.” The announcement was made by Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, sparking widespread alarm and renewed debates about insecurity in the region.
According to reports, the Wulo-Wulo group is said to have emerged shortly after the recent exposure of another extremist sect known as Lukurawa, further heightening fears that multiple splinter jihadist movements are now taking root across Northern Nigeria.
Governor Sule, while addressing security stakeholders in the state, confirmed intelligence suggesting that the Wulo-Wulo group is gaining traction among radicalized elements in some rural communities. The Governor expressed deep concern over the trend, stressing the need for coordinated intelligence sharing between local vigilantes, the police, and the military to forestall attacks.
Security analysts say the rise of Wulo-Wulo could signal a dangerous fragmentation of terrorist networks in the North, with splinter factions potentially seeking to outdo each other in notoriety and violence.
“After Lukurawa, now Wulo-Wulo — this pattern shows the mutation of extremist ideologies rather than their defeat,” a regional analyst commented. “Every time one cell is dismantled, another emerges under a new name.”
Citizens and community leaders across Nasarawa and neighboring states are urging the Federal Government to take swift action to prevent the new sect from expanding its influence or linking up with existing terror groups like Boko Haram or ISWAP.
Governor Sule reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting federal security agencies in maintaining peace and protecting lives and property across the state.
As the North continues to grapple with insecurity, many Nigerians are calling for a more holistic approach that combines military operations with deradicalization, education, and socioeconomic reforms to address the root causes of extremism.
