National Assembly Begins Two-Month Recess, To Resume

The National Assembly began its annual recess on Thursday, July 24, 2025, with both the Senate and House of Representatives adjourning plenary sessions.

The break is scheduled to last for two months, and members of both chambers are expected to resume legislative activities on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the adjournment during plenary, while a similar move was made by the leadership of the House of Representatives.

Despite the recess, committees in both chambers, including ad hoc and standing committees, have been directed to continue their assigned tasks.

Lawmakers are also expected to use the period to complete pending reports and carry out oversight functions in various ministries, departments, and agencies.

The break marks the end of the current phase of the legislative calendar before resumption in September.
