Mrs Tinubu donates 50 buses, 30 tricycles to OAU
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has made a significant contribution to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) by donating 50 buses and 30 tricycles to address transportation challenges faced by students and staff.
The donation event, held at the OAU sports centre, was attended by notable figures, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, and the Ajero of Ijero-Ekiti, Oba Joseph Adewole, along with Osun APC governorship candidate, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, among others.
Senator Tinubu arrived at the venue around 11:30 a.m., where she immediately inaugurated the vehicles alongside the Ooni of Ife. The event featured a warm and enthusiastic welcome from students, who gathered at the sports centre pavilion to express their gratitude for her generous gesture.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Professor Simeon Bamire, described the donation as unprecedented. He stated, “We thank the First Lady for her generosity to the school. She is one of the most shining stars of the institution, and we are incredibly thankful for her contributions to our development.”
The Vice-Chancellor emphasised that the donation of 50 buses and 30 tricycles will significantly alleviate transportation burdens for students, staff and the broader community, enhancing the quality of their lives.
Oluwatodimu David, the OAU Students’ Union President, also expressed appreciation for the donation, stating, “We want to thank the First Lady for the donation of the CNG buses and the 30 tricycles. It aligns with our administration’s vision and will help resolve transportation issues for students.”
David further commended Senator Tinubu for her involvement in campus beautification projects and the renovation of the amphitheatre, noting their positive impact on the university’s growth. He acknowledged Remi as not only a mother of the nation but also a mother to the OAU community specifically.
