Elon Musk, the richest man on earth sparked widespread controversy online as he disclosed that money can’t buy happiness.

 

Elon Musk, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Tesla, who is reportedly worth 852.5 billion USD, made this known on X, formerly called Twitter on Thursday, February 5th, 2026.

“Whoever said ‘money can’t buy happiness’ really knew what they were talking about,” the billionaire tweeted.

The post as of the moment of filling this content has generated over 40 million impressions, about 50,000 reposts and thousands of comments, sparking widespread engagement and mixed reactions from users online at the time of this report.

While some people agreed that wealth does not shield individuals from personal struggles, others argued that money greatly improves quality of life. However, Musk did not give further details about his post.

The tech mogul, whose net worth has seen sharp swings in recent years due to fluctuations in Tesla’s share price, has frequently spoken about the pressures that come with extreme wealth and leadership.
