MICHAEL CARRICK has assembled a Manchester United coaching staff comprising an ex-England man and an old pal of Jason Wilcox.
Carrick, 44, reached an agreement last night to take charge of the Red Devils until the end of the season.
Paperwork is set to be completed today before Carrick meets the squad on Wednesday to prepare for this weekend’s Manchester derby.
According to BBC Sport, the former Middlesbrough boss has elected Steve Holland – once assistant to England manager Gareth Southgate – as his right-hand man.
Holland, 55, hails from nearby Stockport and has previously held the top jobs at Crewe Alexandra and Japanese side Yokohama F. Marinos.
The former Chelsea coach is also known for his infamous bust-up with Ben White, which resulted in the Arsenal defender flying home from the 2022 World Cup

Jonathan Woodgate – once a defender for United’s bitter rivals Leeds – will also join Carrick at Old Trafford.
Woodgate served alongside the Red Devils’ incoming caretaker boss at Boro and was once a team-mate of United’s director of football, Wilcox, at Elland Road.
