LP suspends secretary, 29 others
The Imo State chapter of the Labour Party has suspended its secretary, Paulinus Udechukwu, and legal adviser, Emeka Ihejirika, alongside 28 other members of the party.
The State Executive Council of the party, after its meeting on Saturday, announced the suspension of the party members for three months.
According to the party, the members were suspended for alleged indiscipline, insubordination, disparagement of the party and its leaders, and an attempt to instigate a crisis in the party.
The LP chairman in the state, Calistus Ihejeagwa, said the suspended members were expected to appear before a five-member disciplinary committee investigating the allegations against them.
Meanwhile, the party has passed a vote of no confidence in Governor Hope Uzodimma, asking him to return home and govern the people.
According to the party, there is widespread hunger in Imo State due to Uzodimma’s absence, and he should return to the state and focus fully on governance.
Reading out the outcome of the meeting, Ihejeagwa said, “On the state of governance in Imo State, the SEC passed a vote of no confidence in Governor Uzodimma as there is hunger in the land. The SEC calls on the governor to return home and focus fully on governance.”
Additionally, the SEC commended the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, and his executive members for what they described as their peaceful conduct of party affairs so far.
Reacting to his suspension, the legal adviser, Ihejirika, described the action as null and void, arguing that the state LP chairman, who convened the meeting, lacked the authority to do so as he was facing allegations of financial recklessness and anti-party activities.
“Ihejeagwa is facing allegations of financial recklessness and anti-party activities. He cannot convene a meeting. He just brought his lackeys together, and they said what they said. That suspension is null and void and total nonsense,” Ihejirika said.
