The Chairman, Safana Local Government Area in Katsina, Alhaji Abdullahi Sani, has distributed 10 vehicles to councillors in the state and empowered 1,322 residents.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the empowerment exercise was launched by Gov Dikko Radda on Thursday in Safana.
NAN reports that on Nov. 24, the governor embarked on an inspection tour across the 34 local government areas in the state.
Radda commended the chairman for executing what he described as “the best and most far-reaching empowerment initiative” across the LGAs he had so far visited.
He also applauded the chairman for what he said was “demonstrating exceptional leadership and commitment to grassroots transformation”.
According to Radda, the initiative reflects a practical example of how strengthened local government autonomy can deliver real and measurable impact in people’s lives.
Radda added that the empowerment showcased a deliberate effort to expand local enterprise, promote self-reliance and strengthen the economic foundations of Safana communities.
The governor said, “This is what local government autonomy is meant to achieve, development that starts from the grassroots and directly transforms the lives of ordinary people.
“What Safana has done today is outstanding and stands as the most expansive empowerment programme I have witnessed since beginning my local government engagements.
“Our administration will continue to deepen empowerment initiatives, strengthen local governance structures and support programmes that uplift youths, women and vulnerable groups across Katsina.”
Earlier, the local government chairman commended the governor for supporting him to realise the empowerment through the release of their allocations.
Some of the items distributed included sewing, grinding and noodle-making machines, motorcycles, a council bus, power tillers and a vehicle for the All Progressives Congress Local Government Chairman.
Other items were bags of flour, tricycles for persons with disabilities, cash empowerment for women, youths and vulnerable persons, and also APC local government and ward EXCO members.
Earlier, Radda paid a courtesy visit to the District Head of Safana, Yariman Katsina, Alhaji Sada Rufa’i, and engaged with various stakeholders in Safana.
