LG Chairman breaks silence over abduction of 25 school girls in Kebbi

The Chairman of Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Hussaini Bena, has confirmed the abduction of 25 school girls from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in the early hours of Monday.

According to Bena, the attackers arrived around 4 a.m. and began shooting before escaping with the students, adding that he could not yet give details on possible casualties because he was on his way to the school.

Meanwhile, Tribune Online earlier reported that the Kebbi State Police Command, in a statement on Monday by its Spokesperson, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, has confirmed the abduction, stating that the tactical team deployed from the command engaged in a gun duel with the bandits.

According to him, the information was received that a gang of armed bandits, wielding sophisticated weapons and shooting sporadically, stormed the school.

The police spokesperson confirmed that Hassan Makuku lost his life during the attack, while Ali Shehu sustained gunshot injuries to his right hand.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bello Muhammad Sani, deployed additional police tactical units, alongside military personnel and vigilante groups, to the area.

The combined team is currently combing suspected escape routes and surrounding forests in a coordinated search and rescue operation aimed at recovering the abducted students and arresting the perpetrators.

The Commissioner appealed to residents to remain calm and vigilant, assuring them of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
