Lagos Govt clarifies ₦4.2bn capital allocation for Deputy Governor’s office
The Lagos State Government has dismissed claims that ₦4.2 billion was proposed in the 2026 budget for the purchase of furniture and microphones for the Office of the Deputy Governor, describing the report as inaccurate.
In a statement issued by the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, the government explained that the figure represents the total capital allocation for the Deputy Governor’s Office for the 2026 fiscal year and not solely for office equipment.
According to the statement, the total capital allocation stands at ₦4,247,816,006. Of this amount, ₦4,077,816,006 is earmarked for the reconstruction of the Round House complex, a six-storey facility accommodating over 50 offices.
The project includes structural upgrades, retrofitting works and the provision of alternative energy infrastructure.
The remaining ₦170 million is allocated for the purchase of office equipment, furniture, fittings and other capital items.
The government emphasized that its budgetary provisions are guided by due process, fiscal discipline and established accounting standards.
It also encouraged stakeholders and media organisations to seek clarification through appropriate channels to ensure accurate reporting.
The statement reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prudent management of public resources and expressed regret over any misunderstanding arising from the budget classification.
