Kwara church Survivor Recounts Shocking Attack on Church During Evening Prayer

A night of solemn worship turned into a scene of terror in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, after armed bandits stormed the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun, on Tuesday evening. The attackers left two people dead, several others injured, and kidnapped multiple worshippers in a brazen and heartbreaking assault.
“They Came Out of Nowhere” — Survivor Recounts the Horror
One of the survivors described the chilling moments leading up to the attack. According to him, the congregation had just settled into the evening prayer session when gunshots shattered the peaceful atmosphere. Panic erupted immediately as worshippers tried to hide, but the attackers quickly gained control of the church premises.
He recalled how the bandits first targeted the pastor, shooting him before turning their guns on the terrified congregation. With weapons drawn, they ordered the worshippers to lie face down, beating anyone who hesitated and instilling fear with every step they took.
Two Dead, Several Injured, Many Feared Abducted
By the time the attackers fled, two worshippers had been killed. Several others sustained varying degrees of injuries, and many members of the congregation were forcefully taken away into the forest. Residents say the attack lasted several minutes but felt like hours.
The survivor described the ordeal as “a nightmare that came alive,” adding that families are still in shock as they await news of their loved ones who were abducted.
A Community in Fear and Mourning
Eruku town has been thrown into mourning and confusion. Residents remain fearful as security operatives intensify surveillance in the area. Community leaders have called for urgent government intervention to protect vulnerable communities from further attacks.
The Kwara State Police Command has reportedly launched an investigation into the incident and has promised to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of those kidnapped.
