Kwankwaso Reveals What Tinubu Did To Abba Kabir That Made The Governor Betray Him
Former governor of Kano state and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has again rued over governor Abba Kabir’s reported defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC) at the expense of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) and their decades of political alliance.
In a circulating video of his speaking to the members of the Kwankwasiyya movement on 3rd of January, 2026, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso decried how his age-long political ally and brother in-law, governor Abba Kabir betrayed their long-standing political comradeship which resulted in his being the Kano state governor. He lamented that the governor has chosen to align with those who swore to frustrate his governorship ambition at his expense. According to him, the governor has decided to submit to their political rival in Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje the governorship seat on a platter of gold.
Speaking on why governor Abba Kabir dumped him, Kwankwaso revealed that he did not have any misunderstanding with Abba Kabir that warranted his decision to dump the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement. He rather accused president Bola Ahmed Tinubu of coercing political leaders especially governors in the opposition party into his party, the APC. Hence, Abba Kabir was pressured by president Tinubu to join the APC at his own expense. He reminded the president that in as much as he is capable of forcing governors to join his political party, he is oblivious of the fact that the majority of Nigerians, the electorates, do support him.
“Tinubu is putting pressure on all governors to defect to APC. But he should be reminded that even if all the 36 state governors defect to APC, the masses are not with him and they will vote him out”, Kwankwaso stated.
The former governor of Kano state who had been hesitant to joining forces with opposition coalition until now, declared his readiness to partner with opposition parties against the ruling party. He however pointed out he will enter into partnership with the opposition political party if the party is willing to make him its presidential or vice presidential candidate.
“We are looking for a party, but they must agree to give me, Rabiu Kwankwaso, a Presidential or Vice Presidential ticket”.
