Kemi Olunloyo Raises Alarm as President Tinubu Swêars In Gen. Christopher Musa as Minister of Defence
Nigerian journalist and social commentator Kemi Olunloyo has sparked controversy with her sharp criticïism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s appointment of General Christopher Musa as the new Minister of Defence.
Reacting shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, Olunloyo issued a strongly worded statement on social media, warning that the appointment could worsen the country’s sêcurity challenges. She claimed General Musa’s leadership could “bring the fall of Nigeria faster than you think,” urging Nigerians to revisit reports of violence in Benue communities in recent years.
“If you watched my videos on the Benue genocides in 2024 and 2025—in places like Logo, Yelwatta and others—you will know what I mean,” she wrote, insisting her concerns are rooted in past events she has documented.
Olunloyo also referenced historical military figures to draw parallels, recalling the role of General Iliya Bisalla during the political upheavals of the 1970s.
“If you are not old enough, ask your parents about General Bisalla,” she said. “I was only 12 years old, and that period was what gave me an eye for journalism. He even helped carry Murtala Mohammed’s coffin.”
The journalist concluded her remarks by saying she would “have nothing else to say about insecurity,” suggesting her criticism speaks for itself.
General Christopher Musa, former Chief of Defence Staff, assumes office at a time when Nigeria continues to battle escalating insecurity, including banditry, kidnapping, insurgency, and communal violence in various regions. The Tinubu administration has repeatedly pledged to strengthen security operations and restore public confidence.
As of now, neither the Presidency nor the new Defence Minister has responded to Olunloyo’s claims, though her comments have ignited debate online, with supporters and critics weighing in on the broader implications of the appointment.
