Justice Hussaini Belgore Hands Off Nasir El-rufai’s Case, Cites Reason
Justice Hussaini Belgore, the judge presiding over Nasir El-rufai’s fundamental rights enforcement suit, has recused himself from the case.
Today in court, Justice Hussaini Belgore announced that the case file of Nasir El-rufai’s fundamental rights enforcement will be returned to the chief judge of Nigeria’s Federal High Court, Hon. Justice John Terhemba Tsoho for reassignment.
According to justice Hussaini Belgore, he is proceeding on leave, hence, in his absence, the case will be reassigned to another judge who will continue the proceeding from the adjourned date.
Nasir El-rufai’s had filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit at the federal high court to challenge the actions taken against him by the Nigerian anti-graft agencies( Economic and Financial Crime Commission and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission).
By this development, the slated hearing of the case in the adjourned date becomes uncertain due to the period required by the Chief Judge of Federal High Court to assign the case to another judge and for the new judge to fix a new date for the hearing.
Nasir El-rufai on 16th of February honoured invitation by the EFCC over alleged misappropriation of 432 billion naira during his governorship administration in Kaduna. He was reportedly granted an administrative bail by the EFCC. However, the former governor of Kaduna State was before fulfilling his bail conditions, handed over to ICPC where he has been held since then.
Nasir El-rufai legal counsel has challenged the continued detention of his client without any remand order by any court validating his continued detention.
