JUST IN : Wike loses loyalists to Fubara
It has emerged that loyalists of former Rivers State Governor but current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, Mr. Nyesom Wike, have begun to search for the black goat while it is yet day. The Neighbourhood Newspaper has learnt exclusively that they have begun to make overtures to the camp of the State Governor, Sim Fubara. Already, this medium gathered that some “strategic deals” have been firmed.
The Neighbourhood source, familiar with the hi-wire politicking going on in Rivers State, disclosed that so far not less that seven key players in the Wike camp have despatched emissaries to broker deals for their re-alignment. It is expected that very soon, the men shall be having a one-on-one with Gov. Fubara. This medium learnt that among those politicians are some holding top Federal Government jobs which it was gathered Wike facilitated. Included are also some seeking to play prominent roles in the next state APC executive committee. Since some of the “secret” meetings are ongoing, this medium has chosen not to identify about five of those already on their way out of Wike’s “brown door” melody which our credible source confirmed.
The latest moves by Wike’s henchmen to align with Gov. Fubara is connected with ongoing moves backed by the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to handover the state leadership of the party to the governor. The Neighbourhood had exclusively reported that the party had decided to use Wike to lead President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid while Gov. Fubara controlled the state structure. This medium also reported that APC’s national leadership had agreed to offer Fubara offer of first refusal for the 2027 governorship election. The party has a standing policy that where it has a serving governor who would want to seek re-election still on its platform, such should be offered the ticket. Similarly, in the gale of defections from opposition parties to APC, governors who are into their first terms, were promised the party’s governorship ticket. But where they are doing their second term in office, the party would not interfere in their choice of successor.
The tempo of the game in Nigeria’s oil-rich State is getting higher with underhand deals already being sealed. For the men in Wike’s camp, it is time to re-align as not to be qualified as pariah to APC’s plans to secure Rivers State for Tinubu in 2027.
