JUST IN: Nobody Is K!lling N!gerians; Most High-Ranking Officers In The Armed Forces Are Christians — Gumi

In a recent dialogue on Voice of the People TV, Islamic scholar and previous peace mediator Sheikh Ahmad Gumi spoke about the persistent security challenges in Nigeria, sharing his views on the supposed religiously driven violence and the military’s involvement in peacekeeping.

“Nigerians are not being k!lled by anyone; the majority of senior military personnel are Christians,” Gumi asserted, stressing that both Muslims and Christians hold important roles in security and are dedicated to the safety of all citizens. He noted that while violent occurrences do happen, they mainly stem from ethnic frictions, historical conflicts, and outside factors, rather than a targeted effort against any faith group.

Gumi pointed out the necessity of tackling the origins of v!olence, characterizing many offenders as “ready-made soldiers” whose actions are driven by ignorance and exploitation. He supported his peace-building initiatives by stating that his discussions with armed factions were conducted transparently and involved local, state, and federal officials.

He maintained that conversations, community involvement, and tactical measures are significantly more beneficial than indiscriminate military interventions.

Regarding the topic of external involvement, Gumi emphasized the significance of Nigeria’s independence and the abilities of the nation’s security forces. He cautioned that bringing in foreign assistance could complicate matters further and urged Nigerians to work together with authorities to restore harmony while ensuring responsibility.

In closing, Sheikh Gumi highlighted the collective suffering faced by both Christians and Muslims and advocated for a fair strategy to Nigeria’s security dilemmas. He underscored that by engaging in honest dialogue, empowering local security forces, and fostering community collaboration, it is possible to lessen the cycle of violence and advance enduring peace throughout the country.
