Elder statesman and former Head of Service of the Federation, Malam Adamu Fika, has passed away. He was 90 years old, and it has been reported that he died on his way to Kaduna from a London hospital after a prolonged illness.

According to a family source speaking to the Nigerian Tribune, his funeral prayer is scheduled to take place at the Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna today (Wednesday) at 4:00 p.m.

Born in Yika in 1933, he had a distinguished career in public service. He served as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Ahmadu Bello University, as well as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF).

The deceased also held the traditional title of Wazirin Fika. He began his educational journey at Kaduna Government College and the Nigerian College of Arts, Science, and Technology, which is now known as Ahmadu Bello University.

During his career, he served as the Permanent Secretary of several ministries, including Internal Affairs, Commerce, and Communications.

He also had the honour of serving as the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, where he made significant contributions to the development of Nigeria.

He resigned in protest when the government of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida split the offices of the Secretary to the Government and Head of Service to the Federation, expressing concerns that it would harm the civil service.
