Just In : Lawmakers To Pass Law Allowing Six-Month Maternity Leave
The Niger State House of Assembly is poised to pass legislation providing six months of maternity leave for nursing mothers in the state, according to Deputy Speaker Afiniki Dauda.
Speaking at a training session on etiquette, protocol, security, and empowerment for female political officeholders in Minna, she emphasized the importance of the bill in allowing women to rest adequately after childbirth, promoting the health of both the nursing mother and the child.
The event, organized by the wife of the governor of Niger State, Fatima Bago, aimed at enhancing women’s involvement in governance and equipping them with the necessary business and life skills for their roles as political officeholders and spouses of elected and appointed political officials.
The training, a follow-up to a prior one in Abuja organized by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, focused on fostering women’s participation in governance.
Deputy Speaker Dauda highlighted that the proposed six-month maternity leave would enable working-class nursing mothers to fully recover their energy and establish a strong bond with their children during this crucial period.
Mrs. Bago urged women to embrace a modest lifestyle, avoiding extravagant behavior. Resource persons at the event addressed various issues related to gender-based violence, etiquette, security, and the general conduct of women to safeguard their integrity, safety, and that of their spouses.
