Just In : Ex-Ondo Rep member, seven others arrested.
Police at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department (SCIID) Panti, Lagos State, has arrested a former member of the National Assembly, representing Ondo East/West Federal Constituency, Hon. Iranola Akinlaja and seven other persons over alleged land grabbing in Ondo town.
Akinlaja, a chieftain of People’s Democratic Party and two terms Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) sector was said to have been on land tussle with one Mrs. Stella Akinbobola on a 6,700 acres of land located at Asin community, in Ondo East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
On the fateful day, Mrs Akinbobola was said to have earlier written a petition to the SCIID, over the alleged grabbing of her father’s land by the former lawmaker, before Akinlaja and other seven suspects was arrested on the land.
The former lawmaker was dumped at the Ondo town Area Command of Nigeria Police where he was quizzed for several hours before he was released on self recognition while seven others accomplices were whisked away to Lagos for further investigations.
Confirming the arrest, a senior police officer who led the operation said the arrest was carried out following a petition written by the the complainant, Mrs. Stella Akinbobola, over land tussle between her and the former legislator.
He said thorough investigation will be carry out while the suspects will be arraign in court in due course.
At the conclusion of investigation, the police later arraign other seven accomplices at the Ondo Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ondo town before they were later granted bail by the court.
