‘I’ve been putting on fake smile’ — Boniface says after ongoing another knee surgery

Victor Boniface will be sidelined for a lengthy period after undergoing surgery for a knee injury on Saturday.

In a statement, Werder Bremen, Boniface’s loanee club, said the 25-year-old striker will be unavailable for the “next few months”.

The club said the surgery was deemed necessary after “an examination by the knee specialist on Friday”, adding that Boniface would no longer play for Bremen again this season.

In a post on X, Boniface revealed that the procedure was “done and dusted”.

He then added that he has “been putting on a fake smile for almost a year” before conceding that “God know why all this is happening”.

In his short career, Boniface has suffered two anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries. He has also endured several minor injuries.

Boniface’s lengthy injury history prevented him from joining AC Milan on loan in the summer. The Italian club failed to proceed with the negotiation due to medical concerns.

He was also unlucky not to have moved to Saudi Arabia, despite already having agreed on personal terms with Al Nasser.

Boniface is on loan at Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen. He has featured in 11 matches for Bremen this season before his latest injury. He failed to score a goal, but contributed two assists.
