Iran Hits World’s Largest Liquefied Natural Gas Export Hub In Qatar, Interior Ministry Says
QatarEnergy further stated it “will continue to communicate the latest available information.”
Qatar’s principal gas production hub, Ras Laffan Industrial City, has been hit by a missile strike launched from Iran, causing extensive damage and triggering emergency response operations.
In a statement, QatarEnergy confirmed “that Ras Laffan Industrial City this evening has been the subject of missile attacks.”
The company added that “emergency response teams were deployed immediately to contain the resulting fires, as extensive damage has been caused,” noting that “all personnel have been accounted for and no casualties have been reported at this time.”
QatarEnergy further stated it “will continue to communicate the latest available information.”

Also commenting on the development, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced “that the State of Qatar was subjected today, Wednesday, to an attack involving (5) ballistic missiles launched from the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
The ministry disclosed that “our Armed Forces, by the grace of God, successfully intercepted (4) of the ballistic missiles, while one missile fell in Ras Laffan Industrial City, causing a fire.”
It added that “civil defence teams are currently responding and working to contain the fire.”
In a separate statement, the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed “its strong condemnation and denunciation of the blatant Iranian attack targeting Ras Laffan Industrial City, which caused fires resulting in significant damage to the facility.”
The ministry described the attack as “a dangerous escalation, a flagrant violation of state sovereignty, and a direct threat to its national security and regional stability.”
It stated that “despite Qatar’s policy of distancing itself from this war since its outset and its commitment to avoiding any escalation, the Iranian side continues to target it and neighboring countries in an irresponsible approach that undermines regional security and threatens international peace.”

The ministry stressed that “Qatar has repeatedly called for the need to refrain from targeting civilian and energy facilities, including within the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in order to preserve the resources of the region’s peoples and safeguard international peace and security”.
It added that “the Iranian side continues its escalatory policies that are pushing the region toward the brink and drawing countries not party to this crisis into the conflict zone.”
It further affirmed that “this attack constitutes a violation of UN Security Council Resolution No. (2817),” renewing its call on the United Nations Security Council “to assume its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security and to take the necessary measures to stop these serious violations and deter their perpetrators.”
The ministry also reiterated that “the State of Qatar reserves its right to respond in accordance with Article (51) of the United Nations Charter and the right to self-defence as guaranteed by international law,” stressing that it “will not hesitate to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security, and the safety of its citizens and residents.”
Ras Laffan Industrial City, located about 80 kilometres north of Doha, serves as Qatar’s main site for liquefied natural gas and gas-to-liquid production.
It hosts key facilities including the ORYX GTL and Pearl GTL plants, QatarEnergy LNG plants, the Dolphin gas processing plant, the Laffan Refinery, and integrated water and power plants.
The industrial city also houses Ras Laffan Port, regarded as the largest artificial harbour in the world and home to the world’s largest LNG export facility.
Earlier in March, SaharaReporters reported that a senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Ebrahim Jabbari, had threatened that Iran would expand its retaliatory strikes and cripple economic hubs across the Middle East region if the United States and Israel sustained their attacks on the country.
General Jabbari, speaking amid rising hostilities, said Tehran would respond forcefully to any further assaults on what he described as Iran’s “main centres.”
“We are saying to the enemy that if it decides to hit our main centres, we will hit all economic centres in the region,” Jabbari declared, according to Iran’s state-linked news agency, quoted by Al Jazeera.
