IPOB Accuses Google, BBC, UK Govt Of Colluding With Nigeria Against Nnamdi Kanu
The separatist movement likened the alleged media manipulation to events leading up to Kanu’s extraordinary rendition from Kenya in June 2021.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused Google, the BBC, and the British Government of colluding with the Nigerian authorities to manipulate global opinion and undermine justice in the ongoing case of its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a press statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB alleged that the three parties were engaged in a “coordinated propaganda campaign” ahead of the October 10, 2025, ruling by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
According to IPOB, Google has deliberately “refused to publish current developments” in Kanu’s trial, including the filing of a Magnitsky Sanctions lawsuit in Washington, D.C., against Nigerian judges, while instead “promoting biased BBC Pidgin reports.”
The group claimed the BBC reports recycled “discredited prosecution evidence” and are being amplified in Google search results to create “the false impression that a prima facie case exists against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu when, in reality, the prosecution’s case has collapsed irretrievably.”
“This is not ignorance. This is calculated censorship and collusion,” Powerful said.

IPOB alleged that Wikipedia, under Western influence, altered Kanu’s nationality from “British-Nigerian” to “Nigerian only” before his abduction.
“This deception gave Kenya the false impression that they were abducting an ordinary Nigerian citizen without the protection of Britain,” the group said, adding that the entry was later quietly changed back after the rendition.
“This criminal manipulation of global information platforms smoothed the way for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s extraordinary rendition, in direct violation of Nigerian law, the African Charter, and international treaties,” Powerful stated.
The group further accused the British Government of playing an active role in the alleged campaign.
It stated that “London, acting through the BBC and tech proxies like Google, is actively assisting Nigeria to pervert the course of justice.”
IPOB alleged that Justice Omotosho had already been “handed a pre-written script” and warned that international actors were “conditioning the environment to justify a judicial fraud that has already been prepared in Abuja.”
“We remind the world that the UK Government bears criminal responsibility for the abduction and illegal rendition of its own citizen in June 2021,” Powerful stated.
“Its silence then and its propaganda now prove one thing: Britain has long abandoned its obligations under international law in favour of protecting its colonial interest in Nigeria.”
IPOB declared that both Google and the BBC “have crossed the line from journalism into criminal complicity.”
The group insisted that their alleged censorship and distortion amounted to “active tools in the persecution of Kanu and the Biafran people.”
IPOB also warned that history would “record the complicity of Google, the BBC, and the British Government in the perversion of justice and the enabling of tyranny in Nigeria.”
The group called on the United Nations, the U.S. Congress, the Human Rights Council, and the international press to “hold Google, the BBC, and the UK Government accountable.”
“The persecution of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not just a Nigerian affair. It is a global test of whether Big Tech, Western governments, and compromised media can collude with rogue regimes to suppress truth and destroy freedom,” Powerful said.
