Inspector Detained As Rifle Goes Missing While ‘He Went To Eat’ At Abia Police Headquarters

Apolice inspector has been detained following the disappearance of a service rifle at the Abia State Police Command Headquarters in Umuahia.

According to a police incident report, the officer was on duty at the command headquarters gate when he obtained permission from his guard commander, Inspector Elemi Ivara, to briefly leave his post to eat.
Before leaving, Inspector Stanley reportedly dropped his rifle at the command quarter guard, securing it inside his bag. However, upon his return, he discovered that the bag containing the rifle had gone missing.
An alarm was immediately raised, but none of the officers on duty accepted responsibility for removing the bag from where it was kept. Other officers present at the time included Inspectors Mark Okoi, Elemi Ivara, Jacobson Aniedi, and two others whose identities are yet to be confirmed.
“On the said date at about 1300 hours, while posted on duty at the Abia State Command Headquarters gate, he took permission from his guard commander, Inspector Elemi Ivara of MOPOL 57 PMF, attached to the same beat, to go and eat,” the incident report said.
“He stated that he dropped his rifle at the command quarter guard, locked inside his bag. On his return, he discovered that the bag containing his rifle had been taken away by an unknown person. He immediately raised an alarm, but nobody accepted responsibility for removing the said bag from where it was kept at the command quarter guard.”
Following the incident, Inspector Stanley was defaulted and detained at the Central Police Station (CPS), Umuahia, for further investigation.
The report was forwarded by the Commanding Officer of the 28 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Umuahia, as investigations into the missing firearm continue.
