‘Idiots In Democracy’ – Sheikh Gumi Speaks On Calls For His Arrest
Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic scholar, has responded to calls for his arrest following a recent remark he made about Christians.
Gumi had earlier this week warned against entrusting Nigeria’s national security to Christians and people from the South, and added that President Bola Tinubu’s eight-year term would be terminated.
The preacher made this statement while criticising Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory, for hosting the Israeli ambassador to Nigeria in his office and for intending to work with Israel on security-related matters in Abuja.
The former Rivers State governor was referred to as a “satanic person” by Gumi.
The Muslim preacher warned that if the FCT and Israel worked together, Muslims would suffer.
Following the Islamic cleric’s remark, several organisations and individuals have demanded his immediate arrest for allegedly harming the reputation of Nigerian Christians.
Gumi should be detained, according to Ohanaeze Ndigbo, who called the cleric a “well-known associate of bandits” in response to Gumi’s remarks.
Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister of aviation, also demanded Gumi’s arrest, stating that Christians in Nigeria could not submit to anyone and that no rational Muslim would submit to the terrorist language of Gumi and his associates.
Gumi, however, when contacted by Daily Post on the calls for his arrest said, “I should not have reply for idiots in a democracy”.
