Nigerian cyclist Ese Lovina Ukpeseraye competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics despite facing a major obstacle , she did not have a bicycle to race with in the keirin and sprint events.

Ukpeseraye, who was unexpectedly called up to represent Nigeria, revealed on social media that Team Nigeria had failed to provide her with a bicycle in time for the competition.

In a display of true sportsmanship, the German cycling team stepped in to assist Ukpeseraye by offering her one of their own bicycles so she could participate.

Ukpeseraye expressed her heartfelt gratitude, stating, “In the spirit of sportsmanship, the German team @bunddeutscherradfahr came to my rescue by offering me a bicycle. Thank you ”

Despite not advancing to the next round, Ukpeseraye made history as the first Nigerian cyclist to compete in track cycling events at the Olympic Games.

 

 

Her inspiring performance has paved the way for other Nigerian cyclists and sparked a wave of pride and support from her countrymen.
