How I Earned The Name ‘Omosexy’ – Omotola Opens Up

Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has opened up about the origin of her widely recognised nickname, Omosexy, revealing that the name was coined by her husband rather than fans or colleagues in the film industry.

According to Ireporter Online, the screen icon made the disclosure during an interview on Naija FM, where she recounted how the nickname came into existence and the special gesture that popularised it. She clarified that contrary to popular belief, the name did not emerge from the entertainment scene or her fan base.

The actress disclosed that it was her husband, Captain Matthew Ekeinde, who first called her Omosexy. She explained that at the time, he had gifted her a Lincoln Navigator and went a step further by customising the vehicle’s licence plate with the name “Omosexy,” a move that eventually drew public attention and stuck with her brand.

Responding to a question during the interview about who originated the name, Omotola stated that the affectionate nickname was given to her by her “honey boy,” who inscribed it on the customised plate number of the luxury vehicle.

Over the years, Omosexy has become synonymous with Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, evolving into a defining element of her identity and brand within Nollywood and beyond.
