House of Assembly Member Narrowly Escapes Kidnappers on Expressway

In a frightening turn of events, Hon. Zakari Otokiti, who represents the Okehi State Constituency at the Kogi State House of Assembly, narrowly escaped a kidnap attempt on the Lokoja-Okene expressway. The incident happened as he was returning from a stakeholders’ meeting in Okehi Local Government Area.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that the lawmaker’s convoy came under sudden attack by heavily armed gunmen believed to be kidnappers. The assailants reportedly blocked the busy expressway, forcing vehicles to a halt and creating panic among motorists.

Despite the apparent danger, Hon. Otokiti and his aides managed to evade the ambush. The swift reaction of his security detail, together with vigilant drivers, is said to have thwarted the kidnappers’ plans. Shots were reportedly fired as the attackers tried to force their way into the convoy, but the lawmaker was safely escorted out of the danger zone.

The Lokoja-Okene expressway has, in recent times, been notorious for similar incidents, sparking concerns over the safety of commuters and the urgent need for reinforced security in the region. Hon. Otokiti’s narrow escape highlights not only the growing risks facing public officials but also the everyday dangers encountered by ordinary citizens.

Local authorities are said to be investigating the incident, while constituents and colleagues have called for rapid action to curb insecurity on the roads and ensure the safety of all travelers.
