Happening now: NYSC corps members protest non-payment, youths dump poll for football on 2025 Anambra governorship election day
There are indications that the ongoing 2025 Anambra governorship election on Saturday November 8, 2025 may experience hitches following complaints over non-payment of allowances to the NYSC corps members serving as ad-hoc officials.
Blueprint.ng correspondent on ground reports that the corps members already at Awka, the headquarters of Awka South Local Government Area (LGA) their departure to polling units have expressed reservation over payments as at 7.30am.
When approached, a Presiding Officer explained that the delay was due to time constraints and assured that the issue would be addressed later.
At 7:22 a.m. at Demonstration Primary School, Awka South LGA, security operatives were on ground preparing to escort ad-hoc staff to their designated polling units for the governorship election.
Awka South LGA comprises of Awka, Nibo, Nise, Amawbia, Isiagu, Umuawalu and Mbaukwu communities within the state capital territory.
At 8:35 a.m. at the Obosi Town Hall RAC in Idemili North LGA, NYSC corps members insisted that voting cannot commence without their payment.
Officials were observed cross-checking the ID cards of the Presiding Officer and Assistant Presiding Officers as preparations continue.
In Ifitedunu, Dunukofia LGA, according to Blueprint.ng reports from Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), youths, dressed in their jerseys, were seen heading to football pitch to play as at 7.36am.
