Gunmen kill woman, abduct three in late night strike

Armed bandits attacked Yankamaye village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, killing a woman and abducting three people.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the attack occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, when residents of the village had already gone to bed.

Sources in the area told the newspaper that the attackers parked their motorcycles outside the village and entered on foot to avoid being detected.

According to the sources, the gunmen shot an elderly woman dead because she pleaded with them not to take her son.

“They killed the old woman because she begged them not to take her son. They shot her and then took her son away.

“After that, they entered another house and abducted two women, including the councillor’s daughter-in-law,” said a resident who asked to remain anonymous.

The police have not yet issued a statement on the incident.

Yankamaye village, which is about five kilometres from Rimaye town in Katsina State, has been experiencing bandit attacks since some communities in Katsina signed a so-called “peace agreement” with the bandits.

Neighbouring villages such as Sundu and Buresawa have also suffered similar attacks in recent days.

At least eight people were abducted in a separate night attack on Biresawa on Monday.
