Gunmen Kill Six, Including Pregnant Woman, In Fresh Kogi Attacks
The latest incident occurred on Tuesday in the Idrisu community along Bagana Road in Omala Local Government Area, where two women were reportedly murdered during an invasion by gunmen.
Gunmen suspected to herdsmen have killed no fewer than six people, including a pregnant woman, in separate attacks across communities in Kogi State, deepening fears over rising insecurity in North Central region.
The latest incident occurred on Tuesday in the Idrisu community along Bagana Road in Omala Local Government Area, where two women were reportedly murdered during an invasion by gunmen.
SaharaReporters gathered that the residents were thrown into mourning after discovering that one of the victims was pregnant.
Sources told SaharaReporters that the community has since been engulfed in fear, with residents calling on security agencies to urgently intervene and prevent further bloodshed.
A source explained that the killings in Omala come on the heels of a series of deadly attacks in Dekina Local Government Area, where four farmers were killed in separate incidents earlier in the week.
The victims, from the Okete and Egume communities, were reportedly ambushed while working on their farms.
A source told SaharaReporters that residents say the repeated attacks have made farming increasingly unsafe, putting their livelihoods at risk and deepening food insecurity in the area.
“These killings are becoming too frequent. Our people are no longer safe on their farms or even in their homes,” the source said.
The spate of violence has once again drawn attention to the persistent insecurity affecting rural communities in Kogi State, particularly in farming settlements where residents remain vulnerable to armed attacks.
