Governor  approves ₦450m for women project, to sponsor pilgrims to holy lands

The Benue State Executive Council, chaired by Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has approved ₦450 million as counterpart funding for the Nigeria Women Project aimed at empowering women across the state.

The project, supported by the World Bank and facilitated by the Benue State Government, is designed to strengthen women’s participation in small and medium-scale businesses, reduce poverty, and boost economic growth in the state.
The state’s contribution is expected to attract additional funding from the World Bank to fully implement the initiative.

In another decision, the council approved the sponsorship of 81 Muslim pilgrims to Mecca for this year’s pilgrimage.

It also assured that Christian pilgrims will receive similar support during the pilgrimage to Jerusalem when the time comes.

The move signals the revival of pilgrimage sponsorship in the state under the current administration.

The council further endorsed an executive order by Governor Alia renaming the Benue Printing and Publishing Corporation to the Dan Agbese Printing and Publishing Corporation in honour of veteran journalist Dan Agbese for his significant contributions to Nigeria’s media industry.

Members of the council commended Agbese’s legacy and encouraged young people to emulate his dedication, stressing that hard work and commitment remain key to success.
