Government Sets Up Committee to Recruit 5,000 Teachers Within Two Weeks

The Adamawa State Government has inaugurated a high-powered committee to oversee the recruitment of 5,000 teachers as part of efforts to boost the state’s education sector.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development in Yola, was presided over by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Umar Garba Pella.

The committee includes representatives from major education and government bodies such as the Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Civil Service Commission, and the Office of the Head of Service.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajia Aisha Abubakar Umar, will chair the committee, while the Acting Executive Secretary of PPSMB, Mr. Birsan Penuel, will serve as co-chair.

Commissioner Pella revealed that the committee has just two weeks to screen and select 5,000 qualified candidates from a total of 18,000 applicants. He assured that the process would be conducted with fairness, transparency, and accountability.

“This administration was elected to serve the people, and we intend to keep that promise. We owe our citizens a fair and transparent process that strengthens their trust in government,” Pella said.

He also cautioned members of the committee against any form of corruption or favoritism, urging them to maintain professionalism throughout the exercise.

According to the government, the recruitment drive is part of a wider plan to address teacher shortages and improve the standard of public education across Adamawa State.
