GOD’S PERCEPTION OVERRULES THAT OF MEN – Pastor Isaac Olutimehin

GOD’S PERCEPTION OVERRULES THAT OF MEN – Pastor Isaac Olutimehin
TEXT:
Genesis 39:21 KJV.
“But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison”.
*MESSAGE:*
☆☆☆ Whenever the word “But” is used in a sentence, it introduces something new and different from what is known or believed. It is a conjunction word which implies ‘on the contrary’.
☆☆☆ For example, in 2 Kings 5:1, the bible says “Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man, honourable,… he was also a mighty man in valour, BUT, he was a leper”.
☆☆☆ Despite all the good qualities and attributes of Naaman, the word BUT negates them all.
☆☆☆ Now back to our main bible verse for today, Genesis 39:21. The statement “But the Lord…”, as used here implies contrary to how others saw Joseph, God saw him differently.
☆☆☆ For example, Jacob, his father, saw in Joseph a well behaved boy; so he loved him more than the rest of his children and gave him a coat of many colours, read Genesis 37:3.
☆☆☆ Again his brothers looked at him and saw a reckless dreamer, so they hated him, read Genesis 37:8.
☆☆☆ The Ishmeelite merchants saw in Joseph a slave boy, so they bought him, read Genesis 37:28.
☆☆☆ Potiphar saw in Joseph a dedicated house boy, so he committed everything into his hands, read Genesis 39:4.
☆☆☆ The wife of Potiphar saw in Joseph a very handsome boy who would be good on bed and she tried to lure him to sleep with her, read Genesis 39:7-8.
☆☆☆ The keeper of the prison saw in Joseph a committed prisoner, so he handed over other prisoners into his care, read Genesis 39:22.
☆☆☆ Pharaoh’s chief baker and chief butler, both saw in Joseph a partner in crime but gifted in the interpretation of dreams, so they told him their dreams, read Genesis 40:8-16.
☆☆☆ Despite all these human assessments of Joseph, God saw in him a prime minister in Egypt and so he made him one, read Genesis 41:41-44.
☆☆☆ Beloved, don’t be discouraged by the wrong perceptions of men but be concerned and encouraged by the assessment of God.
☆☆☆ People may praise and flatter you to your own downfall because of their selfish gains, but always remember that God chastises those he loves, read Hebrews 12:6.
*PRAYERS*
1. Oh God my father, please deliver me from the wrong perceptions of men.

8. My life is in your hand Lord, mould me according to the script you have written concerning me.
