Fubara, Wike Hold Late-Night Meeting in Port Harcourt Amid Lingering Political Tension

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have again met behind closed doors in Port Harcourt — a development that has reignited political discussions across the state.

The private meeting, which reportedly lasted into the early hours of Sunday, was held at the residence of elder statesman Chief Ferdinand Alabraba.

Although details of the talks remain undisclosed, sources suggest the meeting was part of renewed efforts to uphold the fragile peace accord brokered by President Bola Tinubu during the political crisis that once split the state’s leadership.

Interestingly, loyalists of Governor Fubara were noticeably absent, continuing a pattern observed in previous reconciliatory gatherings.

Those in attendance included several of Wike’s allies — among them, Speaker of the State Assembly, Martin Amaewhule; Senators Magnus Abe, George Sekibo, Barinada Mpigi, and Wilson Ake; and former Attorneys-General Frank Owhor, Ken Chikere, Worgu Boms, and Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor (SAN).

Also present were PDP State Chairman, Chukwuemeka Aaron, APC South-South Vice Chairman, Victor Giadom, and the Mayor of Port Harcourt, Alwell Ihunda, among others.

The meeting, though shrouded in secrecy, has fueled speculations of a possible political realignment or a new understanding between the two power blocs in Rivers State’s turbulent political arena.
