From Controversy to Control: How Obasa’s Son Emerged Agege LG Chairman

Earlier this year, Lagos State Speaker Obasa was impeached. After weeks of drama, he was reinstated by order of President Tinubu.

A few months later, Obasa’s son was anointed as the Agege LG Chairmanship candidate, which drew criticism from many quarters.

Disgruntled party members and voters voiced opposition to it as the father has been the Assembly speaker since 2015, and he is now attempting to have his son installed as LG Chairman again.

Surprisingly, Obasa’s son’s name was removed from the chairmanship list without a clear explanation—which calmed down the internal issues within the party. He was later announced as the Vice Chairmanship candidate.

In August—barely a month after Governor Sanwo-Olu swore in the elected LG leaders—Alhaji Tunde Azeez, the chairman of Agege LG, went on medical leave, transferring power to Obasa’s son.

Now, the chairman has resigned, citing health issues (agreement is agreement in Wike’s voice), and the legislative arm of Agege LG subsequently swore in Obasa’s son as the new Chairman.
