Former Nigerian Chief Judge dies

Justice Daniel Dantshoho Abutu, a former Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, has died. His death was officially confirmed on Wednesday in a statement issued by the court’s Chief Registrar, Sulaiman Hassan.

Justice Abutu served as the head of the Federal High Court from September 2009 until his retirement in March 2011. He was praised for his remarkable service, known for his integrity, dedication, and strong commitment to upholding justice.

The Federal High Court paid tribute to the late jurist, describing him as a respected figure in the legal profession who gave his life to the advancement of the judiciary and the nation.

“The Federal High Court regrets to announce the passing of our former Chief Judge, Hon. Justice D.D. Abutu, who served the court and the nation with distinction, integrity, and unwavering commitment to justice,” the statement read.

In recognition of his contributions, all branches of the court across Nigeria have been instructed to display his portrait in a prominent and respectful location within their premises.

Additionally, the Chief Registrar announced that condolence registers have been opened in all divisions of the Federal High Court. These will enable judges, staff, lawyers, and the public to pay their last respects and offer messages of sympathy.
