Family Hands Son To Police, Reveals Hiding Place After ‘Defrauding 16 Victims Of 12 Million

A family in Tripoli has handed their son over to the police after he allegedly defrauded multiple victims of millions of dinars in an alleged scam.

According to a report by the Libya Observer, the suspect was accused of “defrauding 16 victims out of a total of 12 million Libyan dinars.”
The report stated that the suspect “vanished after collecting the funds from the victims,” prompting concern among those affected.
However, his relatives later discovered where he was hiding. The family subsequently informed authorities and disclosed his location.
They “contacted authorities, providing his whereabouts to enable his arrest and ensure he faces justice for the scam,” the report added.
The suspect was thereafter apprehended by police following the tip-off from his family.
In a separate development in January, SaharaReporters reported that Libyan authorities arrested a Nigerian woman and her Ghanaian husband over the alleged torture and starvation of an orphaned child to death in Tripoli.

The couple was arrested on Wednesday, January 7, 2025, according to reports by Libya Observer.
Police sources were quoted as stating that the suspects were being investigated over allegations that they maltreated the child, subjecting him to prolonged torture and starvation until he died.
It was further gathered that the child’s mother had died about two years ago in Libya under what were described as questionable circumstances, leaving the child in the care of the couple.
Reacting to the incident, a prominent anti-human trafficking activist, Yakubu Oyiza Hope, expressed outrage in a post, saying, “I have been trying to filter what I consume recently because ah no wan maddddd but there are things you will see and it will trigger you so badly and make you so upset.”
“I saw this news of this orphan that was maltreated till death by this Ghanaian man and his Nigerian wife in Libya,” Oyiza Hope added.
Providing further context, she stated: “From what I learnt, the boy’s mum died about 2 years ago in Libya under questionable circumstances and see what they did to the child.”
