Exclusive: Secret Agreement Behind Peter Obi’s Move To ADC–Obi’s Ally Reveals
The Nigeria’s political atmosphere is charged in view of the 2027 general elections and the opposition politicians desperate push for unification into a single strong powerful political force.
A few months ago, the Nigerian opposition leaders across the regions of the federation began what is viewed today as the most formidable opposition party– African Democratic Congress (ADC) where opposition parties have united into a fold with the aim of ousting president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government in the 2027 general elections.
Most of the prominent politicians who converged at the unveiling of the ADC as the coalition party months ago, have all publicly and formally joined the party but Peter Obi.
Peter Obi’s name has become synonymous with opposition politics in Nigeria. The former governor of Anambra state with enviable credential and public trust, is yet to formally join the ADC. Obi who came third in the 2023 presidential election, had complained about the ADC’s lack of clear ideology and zoning arrangement.
Interesting, as 2025 comes to an end, Reliant.ng has been informed that Mr. Peter Obi will announce his switch to the ADC before the end of the year.
This information is backed up by recent public statement by Obi’s trusted ally who served as his chief of staff while he was the governor of Anambra state, Oseloka Obaze vaguely revealed on Saturday that his principal, Obi will be making the switch to the coalition party. He compared the move to a super-skilled driver knowing when to accelerate or decelerate and to change lane.
“Every superskilled driver, behind a turbocharged vehicle, running in a rally on a superhighway, knows exactly at which point where it becomes imperative to shift into high gear and switch lanes. That’s the only way to stay in the race and ultimately win the race. We are there!” He stated.
With Peter Obi joining the ADC, many are concerned about whether he will be able to beat his former principal and serial presidential aspirant, former vice president Atiku Abubakar to the ADC presidential ticket for 2027.
Reliant.ng is privy to know that Peter Obi joining the ADC is predicated on the agreement he reached with the leadership and stakeholders of the party on power sharing and zoning.
A source close to Mr. Peter Obi informed Reliant.ng about a pact between Obi and Atiku Abubakar, the favourite to win the ADC presidential ticket. The source told Reliant.ng that Atiku Abubakar has decided to forgo his 2027 presidential ambition in respect to the unwritten power rotation agreement between the Southern Nigeria and the Northern Nigeria. Hence, Peter Obi has been unanimously adopted by the party’s national leadership to fly the party’s presidential ticket in 2027. His unanimous adoption is not without some terms and conditions: Peter Obi must abide by his promise to go for a single tenure if he eventually wins against president Tinubu in 2027. He will not decide his running mate as Atiku Abubakar has been granted the right to produce the party’s vice presidential candidate.
Also, Peter Obi will have limited ministerial slots while party leaders such David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, Nasir El-rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, Jonah Jang, John Oyegun will be compensated with the right of nomination of ministers to Peter Obi’s presidential cabinet.
