Ex-House of Assembly speaker joins senate race after return to APC

Samaila Kamba, erstwhile speaker of the Kebbi state house of assembly during the Adamu Aliero administration, has declared his intention to contest the Kebbi north senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kamba, who rejoined the ruling party a few months ago, after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he is seeking the senate seat to build on his achievements as speaker and contribute to the human capacity development agenda of Nasir Idris, governor of Kebbi state.

He said reaching thousands of his constituents will only be possible from the senate, adding that his experience as a lawmaker will enable him contribute positively to nation-building.

Kamba said he returned to the APC because he is satisfied with the way Idris is running the affairs of Kebbi state.

“I joined the APC at my own time, not at the expense of anybody,” he said.

“I am an adult and a bona fide Nigerian, therefore I can take any decision I deem fit, and immediately I got satisfied with the current happenings in the state, I joined to contribute my quota.”

Before rejoining the ruling party, Kamba was a prominent member of the PDP in Kebbi, commanding a huge following.

Yahaya Abdullahi, a third-term senator and former majority leader, currently represents Kebbi north in the upper legislative chamber.
