#EndBadGovernance: Nigerian Claims Responsibility For Producing Russian Flags Hoisted During Protests, Threatens To Soon Introduce Iranian Flags
Authorities, including the Department of State Services and police, have arrested several individuals, including foreigners and tailors, suspected of sponsoring and producing the flags.
A middle-aged Nigerian man has claimed responsibility for the production and hoisting of Russian flags in certain areas of Northern Nigeria during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests.
Authorities, including the Department of State Services and police, have arrested several individuals, including foreigners and tailors, suspected of sponsoring and producing the flags.
The military has condemned the act as a treasonable felony.
In a widely shared TikTok video, the man, visibly enraged, threatens to soon introduce the Iranian flag and declares that a “nationwide hunger protest has just begun.”
In the viral video, the man is seen criticising General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), for his statement that individuals who displayed Russian flags during the protests would face prosecution for treasonable felony.
On August 6, 2024, after a security meeting with President Bola Tinubu, the CDS condemned the hoisting of Russian flags by protesters in several Nigerian towns as a “treasonable offence”.
Despite this warning, protesters in Kano, Kaduna, Zamfara, and Plateau states continued to display Russian flags, prompting the CDS to vow that those responsible would be held accountable under the law.
Reacting in the viral TikTok video promoted on Facebook by one Suleiman Haladu, the man accused General Musa of acting a Jewish script.
The man who spoke in Hausa said, “Since your first public appearance where you attempted to stop the protest, I’ve been longing to reply to you. Now that you’ve declared treasonable charges against protesters because of the Russian flags, let it be known to you that you’ve played into my hands and I now know what hurts you.
“Make no mistake, I don’t fear you in any way, therefore stop searching for the producer or sponsors of the Russian flags; I produced them! Yes, I’m behind those flags! I’m happy it hurts you and you’ll see more of them in the coming days.
“We’ll also introduce Iranian flags too, and that very soon. If like come and killed all of us.”
“You asked us to respect our country. What country are you talking about, do you mean Nigeria that doesn’t care about our plight and suffering? Go away, you and your anti-people policies,” the protester said.
He urged the military and other security forces to stop hounding #EndBadGovernance protesters and go after Boko Haram terrorists and the Bello Turji-led bandits instead.
