EKITI SENATORS MUST RISE TO THE OCCASION AND GIVE ACCOUNT OF THEIR STEWARDSHIP

In a democratic setting, representation goes beyond mere presence in the National Assembly it is about visible impact, accountability, and a sincere commitment to improving the lives of the people.
In Ekiti State, we are privileged to have three senators representing our three senatorial districts. Their performance, particularly in the areas of infrastructural development, human capital advancement, and empowerment programmes, is critical to complementing the laudable achievements of our performing governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.
Governor Oyebanji is doing credibly well in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Ekiti State. However, it is important to note that not everyone can directly benefit from state government programmes. Those who may not be reached by the governor’s initiatives should have the opportunity to benefit from the interventions of our senators if they truly embark on people-oriented programmes that support the government in their own ways.
Unfortunately, many federal roads in Ekiti State remain in deplorable condition, becoming death traps for motorists and passengers. It is surprising that we have not seen our senators collectively or individually raise this matter vigorously on the floor of the Senate. Such an issue demands urgent and decisive legislative action that would prove to Ekiti people that their voices are truly being heard in Abuja.
Just as our governor moves tirelessly across federal ministries in Abuja to attract projects and programmes to our state, our senators should do the same. They must be proactive, strategic, and relentless in pursuing the needs of their constituents.
That said, I must commend the outstanding contributions of our Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, whose achievements speak volumes:
Spearheading major infrastructural projects within his senatorial district.
Building markets that boost local commerce.
Renovating hospitals to improve healthcare delivery.
Facilitating new structures for the medical school at Ekiti State University (EKSU).
Building standard hostels for the EKSU medical department.
Renovating schools across his senatorial district.
Facilitating the establishment of a university in Iyin Ekiti, benefiting the entire state.
Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, as the political eyes and strong voice of Mr. President in Ekiti State, has set a commendable example but even he can still do more.
I therefore call on our other senators to buckle up and match the expectations of their people. The citizens of their senatorial districts are watching and waiting to see more tangible results in infrastructure, human capital development, and other impactful initiatives. Representation is a trust, and it must be justified with visible action.
Ekiti people deserve more, and the time to deliver is now.
