Ebonyi Cleric Arrested For Allegedly Having Sex With Church Member
The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested the General Overseer of Champion the Truth Cathedral, Bishop Ndibueze Okorie Onyagoziri, over allegations of repeatedly having sexual intercourse with a 22-year-old church member, who is reportedly a sickle cell patient.
According to police sources, the suspect was taken into custody after the young woman lodged a complaint detailing how the cleric allegedly lured and exploited her under the guise of spiritual guidance and healing.
The victim, whose identity is being withheld for security reasons, alleged that Bishop Onyagoziri took advantage of her vulnerable health condition, assuring her that intimacy with him would bring healing and divine intervention. The complainant further alleged that the cleric manipulated her trust as a spiritual father, leading to repeated sexual encounters.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Ebonyi State Command, [insert current PPRO’s name if available], stated that the case is under thorough investigation. He added that the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of inquiries.
“We can confirm that one Ndibueze Okorie Onyagoziri, who claims to be the General Overseer of a ministry in the state, is currently in our custody. He is being investigated over allegations of sexual exploitation. The Command assures the public that justice will be served in accordance with the law,” the PPRO said.
The development has sparked widespread reactions across Ebonyi, with many residents condemning the alleged abuse of trust by a cleric who should serve as a moral compass to his congregation. Religious stakeholders have also called for greater accountability among church leaders and urged worshippers to be cautious of manipulative practices disguised as spiritual directives.
