Crisis Rocks Lagos APC Over Alleged Imposition of Relatives, Altered Local Councils Supervisor/SLG Appointment Lists, Warns of Repeat of 2023 Defeat Ahead of 2027 Polls

Fresh crisis is brewing within the Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as party members protest what they describe as the imposition of family members and alleged manipulation of political appointment lists at the local government level.

According to reports obtained by Lagos Reporters, aggrieved members have raised concerns over the alleged alteration of lists for Supervisors and Secretaries to Local Governments (SLGs) originally submitted to councils by the state government. The members claim that loyal party faithful and long-serving grassroots politicians were sidelined in favour of relatives and associates of party leaders.

The development, sources say, has deepened internal discontent, with many members accusing influential figures within the party’s apex decision-making body, the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), of prioritising family interests over merit and party loyalty.

Party insiders further recalled that a similar pattern played out during the last local government elections, where several GAC members allegedly endorsed their children and close associates as chairmanship candidates across various councils, sidelining more experienced and widely accepted aspirants.

The lingering grievances, analysts warn, may pose a significant threat to party unity as the state prepares for the 2027 general elections, including the presidential and governorship contests.

The fallout from the 2023 presidential election in Lagos continues to cast a shadow over the party. Despite eventual national victory, APC’s presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, suffered a surprising defeat in Lagos State to Peter Obi of the Labour Party an outcome widely interpreted as a protest vote by dissatisfied party members and residents.

Many within the party attributed that setback to internal disaffection, imposition of unpopular candidates, and a perceived disconnect between party leadership and grassroots supporters.

Now, with similar allegations resurfacing, disgruntled members have vowed to resist what they describe as “political marginalisation,” warning that continued imposition could trigger another electoral backlash.

“We will not be ignored again. If this continues, we will use our votes to speak in 2027,” one party member told Lagos Reporters.

As tensions rise, political observers caution that how the APC leadership manages internal grievances in the coming months could determine its electoral fortunes in Lagos, a state long regarded as its stronghold.
