Court Affirms Legitimacy of 2025 PDP National Convention in Ibadan
An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has upheld the validity of the 2025 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was conducted in the Oyo State capital on November 15 and 16, 2025. The landmark ruling has effectively put to rest legal disputes surrounding the exercise that produced a new national leadership for the party.
Delivering judgment on Friday, Justice Ladiran Akintola of Court 5 dismissed an application for stay of proceedings filed by Nwachukwu and other parties challenging the convention. The court ruled shortly after addressing an application for joinder, clearing the path for a substantive decision on the matter.
In his verdict, Justice Akintola granted all 13 reliefs sought by the claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi, through his counsel, Musbau Adetunmbi. The court’s decision affirms the legality of the convention process and its outcomes.
With the ruling, the emergence of the National Working Committee led by Dr. Taminu Turaki has now been judicially validated, reinforcing the party’s leadership structure and signaling a new chapter for the PDP following the Ibadan convention.
