“CBN Now a Y0ruba Republic?” — Uche P. Okoye Slams New CBN Appointments as Nepotism Takes Center Stage

Controversy is brewing over the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) latest appointment of 16 new directors, with social commentator Uche P. Okoye accusing the institution of blatant ethn!c favoritism.

According to the appointment list released, 10 of the new directors are Yoruba, while 3 are Hausa and 3 Igbo — a ratio Okoye describes as “a clear case of Owoda Nepot!sm,” blaming it for Nigeria’s economic downfall.

Okoye didn’t mince words, saying: “This is why the economy keeps collapsing — competence has been thrown away for tr!bal loyalty.”

The appointments cover key departments such as Banking Supervision, Monetary Policy, Currency Operations, and Information Technology, sparking widespread debate online about regional balance and meritocracy in governance.
